Brazil and IBIA Join Forces to Safeguard Sports Betting Integrity

The Ministry of Sports in Brazil has partnered with the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) to bolster the integrity of sports betting.

This agreement enables the exchange of data on suspicious betting activities tied to Brazilian sports, fostering collaboration on investigations to curb match-fixing. The partnership unites the Ministry, tasked with protecting Brazilian sports, with IBIA, a global leader in betting integrity monitoring, covering over 70% of Brazil’s licensed online betting market, according to H2 Gambling Capital.

A recent study, “The Availability of Sports Betting Products: An Economic and Integrity Analysis,” projects that Brazil’s regulated sports betting market will generate US$34 billion (R$191.7 billion) in revenue by 2028. With this growth, ensuring the integrity of sports and protecting consumers and operators from manipulation is critical. Brazil’s new regulatory framework mandates that operators join an independent integrity monitoring body, strengthening IBIA’s role in overseeing and safeguarding betting transactions in the country.

The Minister of Sports, André Fufuca, emphasized the significance of this partnership: “We have signed a milestone in the fight against manipulation of results in Brazilian sports. Integrity must be a constant principle when it comes to transparency, ethics and, above all, the accuracy of sports results.” He added, “With these agreements, we will have more than enough tools to curb this practice and ensure greater transparency in competitions. This way, athletes, clubs, organizations, fans and the entire population will be able to fully trust in the fairness of the results and, with that, have the peace of mind to develop the full potential of Brazilian sport.”

Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA, also highlighted the partnership’s importance: “IBIA welcomes this important partnership with the Brazilian Ministry of Sports. As the market grows, so does the responsibility to ensure that robust integrity safeguards are in place.” He noted, “This agreement will ensure that information about suspicious betting is quickly shared with the Ministry to support effective integrity actions. This includes access to detailed, account-level data only available through IBIA’s dedicated network.”

IBIA, a non-profit established in 2005 (formerly ESSA), is a global authority in combating match-fixing and betting fraud. It monitors over $300 billion in annual betting revenue across 140+ sports betting brands worldwide, offering free integrity monitoring to sports bodies, regulators, and law enforcement. In Q1 2025, IBIA reported 63 suspicious betting cases to authorities. Its Global Monitoring and Alert Network tracks individual consumer account activity, distinguishing it from probability-based systems, and supports partnerships with organizations like FIFA, UEFA, ITIA, and the IOC to prosecute corruption. IBIA’s members, operating across six continents, adhere to a strict code of conduct and responsible gambling practices. Brazil sports betting integrity
