North Carolina Sports Betting Revenue Closes April with Gains Despite Year-Over-Year Drop

In North Carolina, sports betting revenue experienced a month-on-month increase in April, despite a decline in overall spending on sports wagers. While both the total handle and revenue showed a decrease when compared to the previous year, the state managed to report higher revenue figures compared to March.

During April, consumers wagered a total of $576.2 million on sports betting activities. The gross wagering revenue for the month was $560.7 million, which included $15.5 million in promotional bets. However, this amount represents an 11.2% decrease from April 2024, marking the first full month since the legalization of sports wagering in North Carolina. Compared to March 2025, the handle was 15.8% lower, with the total bets amounting to $685 million, according to the North Carolina State Lottery Commission.

The commission also reported that $4.1 million worth of bets were canceled or voided during April. Additionally, players won a total of $525.3 million from their wagers. As a result, the gross wagering revenue for the month was just over $46.8 million, which is a significant 55.6% drop from the previous year. Despite this decline, the revenue was 22.8% higher than in March, indicating an improvement in the state’s sports betting performance despite reduced consumer spend. The data showed that North Carolina’s statewide hold—a measure of revenue retained by sportsbooks—stood at 8.12% in April. This was an increase from 5.78% in March, suggesting a more favorable revenue percentage for operators during the month.

Details about the performance of individual operators remain undisclosed. However, major brands such as FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, and Fanatics are active within the state’s sports betting market. North Carolina Sports Betting Revenue
