Ontario iGaming Breaks Records in May with $338M Monthly Revenue
Ontario’s iGaming sector continues to surge, with May’s figures signaling a robust appetite for online gaming and betting. The province’s online casinos alone amassed CA$259.8 million in revenue during the month, contributing to a historic high in overall iGaming gross gaming revenue (GGR). Notably, Ontario iGaming Revenue May played a significant role in this record-breaking performance, reflecting the sector’s rapid growth and increasing player engagement.
In May, Ontario’s total gross gaming revenue hit CA$338.0 million (approximately US$247.0 million), smashing previous records and reflecting a 2.9% increase over the prior peak of CA$328.5 million set in January. Compared to May of last year, this represents a hefty 40.3% jump, and an 8.0% rise from April 2025.
Breaking down the numbers, online casino operations led the charge, accounting for 77% of all iGaming income. Sports betting contributed CA$71.8 million, a 26.3% rise from the previous year, while internet poker grew by 18.9%, reaching CA$6.3 million.
Market share-wise, online casinos dominate Ontario’s iGaming landscape, but the wagering figures reveal even more impressive growth. Total player spend across all platforms hit a record-breaking CA$8.07 billion in May — surpassing the previous high of CA$7.95 billion from March. This marks the first time Ontario’s iGaming handle has crossed the CA$8 billion threshold.

Year-over-year, wagering increased by nearly 29%, with a modest 3.5% growth month-over-month. The lion’s share of this activity was driven by internet casino play, which alone accounted for CA$6.96 billion—up 30.9% from last year. Sports betting wagers grew by 18.5% to CA$972 million, while online poker wagers rose by 11.6% to CA$129 million.
Interestingly, these record-breaking revenue and spending figures come despite a slight dip in active players—down 2% year-over-year to 1.07 million. Nonetheless, the average revenue per active player rose by 10%, reaching CA$316, highlighting increased engagement and higher per-user spending.
