01 December 2025: The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) and PFA Canada have completed the second year of their joint anti-match-fixing education programme, reaching nearly two hundred players and staff across all eight Canadian Premier League (CPL) clubs.

IBIA’s player education programme, called ‘Protecting the Integrity of the Game’, is structured around three foundational pillars of: Rules, Responsibility and Reporting. Known as the 3Rs, it explains the key information every athlete should know about sports betting-related match-fixing. The key aim of the training is to equip athletes and coaches with the knowledge to identify, avoid and report betting-related integrity risks.

Delivered in partnership with PFA Canada, the focus on in-person training creates the opportunity to share and discuss real world experiences and impress on athletes the importance of understanding, identifying and reporting potential match-fixing to protect their careers and their sport.

In addition to highlighting the potential threats from sports betting-related match-fixing, the programme educated players on rules and sanctions, the scale and accuracy of technology enabled sports integrity monitoring, and how to report criminals and corrupters using the red button app.

The joint IBIA and PFA Canada programme is part of an initiative funded by a CA$300,000, three-year investment from IBIA and its members – bet365, Betway and FanDuel – through which Canadian athletes and sports organisations can access free, in-person integrity education, helping safeguard Canadian sport against match manipulation and corruption.

This agreement enables the exchange of data on suspicious betting activities tied to Brazilian sports, fostering collaboration on investigations to curb match-fixing. The partnership unites the Ministry, tasked with protecting Brazilian sports, with IBIA, a global leader in betting integrity monitoring, covering over 70% of Brazil’s licensed online betting market, according to H2 Gambling Capital.

A recent study, “The Availability of Sports Betting Products: An Economic and Integrity Analysis,” projects that Brazil’s regulated sports betting market will generate US$34 billion (R$191.7 billion) in revenue by 2028. With this growth, ensuring the integrity of sports and protecting consumers and operators from manipulation is critical. Brazil’s new regulatory framework mandates that operators join an independent integrity monitoring body, strengthening IBIA’s role in overseeing and safeguarding betting transactions in the country.

The Minister of Sports, André Fufuca, emphasized the significance of this partnership: “We have signed a milestone in the fight against manipulation of results in Brazilian sports. Integrity must be a constant principle when it comes to transparency, ethics and, above all, the accuracy of sports results.” He added, “With these agreements, we will have more than enough tools to curb this practice and ensure greater transparency in competitions. This way, athletes, clubs, organizations, fans and the entire population will be able to fully trust in the fairness of the results and, with that, have the peace of mind to develop the full potential of Brazilian sport.”
