Brazil Launches Advanced Cyber Lab to Crack Down on Unlicensed Online Gambling

Brazil has taken a significant step forward in its efforts to combat illegal online betting operations. Anatel, the Ministry of Finance’s Secretary of Prizes and Betting (SPA-MF), and the National Association of Gaming and Lotteries (ANJL) have come together to formalize a partnership aimed at disrupting unlicensed betting websites. The agreement between these bodies is designed to strengthen measures against illegal betting sites and to promote a safer, more transparent gambling environment. Brazil unlicensed gambling

As part of this initiative, a new cyber lab will be established with advanced technical capabilities to enhance the speed and accuracy of website blocking efforts. The goal is to make the process of shutting down unlicensed platforms faster, more reliable, and more transparent, following the guidelines set by SPA. This effort builds upon the existing Technical Cooperation Agreement, which already facilitates real-time information sharing between Anatel and the Ministry of Finance to address illegal fixed-odds betting sites more efficiently.

Anatel President Carlos Baigorri described the agreement as “a decisive step” in creating effective technological barriers and raising awareness among consumers about avoiding unlicensed platforms. Meanwhile, SPA Secretary Régis Dudena highlighted that ANJL’s support demonstrates the alignment of public and private interests in tackling illegal operators. In addition to these efforts, SPA has partnered with the Digital Council of Brazil to remove illegal betting advertisements from digital platforms, further strengthening the crackdown.

Authorities emphasized that blocking unlawful platforms not only addresses financial crimes but also helps redirect resources into public coffers. For ANJL, the move underscores the industry’s commitment to working collaboratively with regulators. “Our association has as a principle to support authorities in building a regulated sector by bringing good practices,” said Pietro Cardia Lorenzoni, the association’s Legal Director. brazil unlicensed gambling
