This measure aligns with the country’s evolving gambling regulatory framework and aims to ensure compliance with local market standards. Under the new rules, developers must submit a valid authorization issued by Brazil’s Secretariat of Prizes and Bets, which operates under the Ministry of Finance and oversees the regulated betting market. This update signifies a move toward stricter compliance measures, reflecting Brazil’s transition from transitional arrangements to a more structured and supervised gambling environment.

According to Apple’s updated developer guidance, applications offering fixed-odds betting in Brazil are now required to include proof of a valid local license during the review process. This requirement applies specifically to apps that declare gambling features via the age rating questionnaire in App Store Connect. Apple clarified that merely updating review information is insufficient; developers must submit a new app version, include license details in the App Review Information section, document the relevant information in the notes field, and provide supporting documentation.

In conjunction with the licensing requirement, Apple announced that qualifying betting apps will automatically be assigned an 18+ age rating for the Brazilian market. This standardizes the classification for gambling apps and eliminates the possibility of lower age labels for apps containing regulated betting features. This change is noteworthy for operators, as app discoverability, user acquisition, and the overall conversion process are increasingly influenced by platform policies alongside local gambling laws.

Additionally, Apple’s update emphasizes that betting apps must adhere to all applicable local disclosure and warning requirements, including messaging related to gambling risks. This indicates a broader compliance obligation beyond licensing alone, aligning with trends in other regulated jurisdictions where platform operators are actively enforcing market-specific standards.

For betting brands targeting the Brazilian market, these developments introduce further operational considerations. Any operator seeking to distribute their apps on iOS must ensure that their licensing status, app review documentation, and consumer-facing disclosures remain fully compliant with both national regulations and Apple’s App Store policies.
