Betsson penalized €2.5 million for targeting mainland gamblers in Finland

The Finnish Police Board has fined Betsson €2.5 million ($2.7 million) for promoting gambling in the nation. The corporation will be required to stop all marketing in mainland Finland as part of the sanction. Betsson Finland

Despite the fact that Betsson lacks a license to conduct business in the Nordic nation, it was discovered that the operator “targeted Mainland Finland in its advertising on multiple channels for an extensive period.”

The Finnish Police claimed in a statement that although Betsson adjusted its marketing strategies following a hearing on the matter, it continued to target mainland Finland.

The National Police Board estimated that BML Group has significant financial interest in continuing the activities and found that the illegal activities have continued for a long time regardless of the National Police Board’s previous control measures.

The Police stated:

Betsson has also been told to pay the fine and “refrain from publishing new sales promotion material targeting Mainland Finland on its gambling websites, remove all previously published sales promotion material from them, and refrain from marketing on other websites in the future.”

The punitive action will take effect on June 3, even though Betsson may opt to appeal.

The announcement was released immediately after Betsson reported a gross profit of €147.5 million for the first quarter of 2023, an increase of 38% over the same period in the previous year.

For 60 years, we have been offering entertainment in the form of casino games, sports betting and other types of games. Having a long-term perspective is the key when it comes to Betsson’s view about how the business should be run and how value is created for shareholders.”

Pontus Lindwall, President and CEO of Betsson AB, said of the report.
