New Jersey Casinos Experience 5.1% Revenue Decline in Q1 2025

New Jersey’s casino industry experienced a notable downturn in the first quarter of 2025, with net revenues declining by 5.1% compared to the same period last year, totaling approximately $730.3 million. Breaking down the numbers, Borgata Atlantic City remained the largest contributor, earning close to $174.2 million—down 2.7% year-over-year. In contrast, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino was the only Atlantic City property to post a revenue increase, growing modestly by 1.2% to nearly $135 million.

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) highlighted that hotel occupancy rates in Atlantic City casinos dipped slightly to 62.9%, reflecting a 1.9% decline from the first quarter of 2024. Overall, gross operating income for the quarter totaled $132 million, marking a sharp 15.1% decrease from the previous year.

Other properties showed varied results: Ocean Casino surpassed the $100 million mark with $113 million in revenue, though this was a 3.2% decrease from last year. Harrah’s Atlantic City brought in $70.1 million, while Tropicana earned $61.1 million—both experiencing declines of approximately 3.6% and 3.2%, respectively.

Meanwhile, Caesars Atlantic City reported revenues of $50.1 million, down nearly 16%, and Bally’s revenue fell 7.7% to $41.7 million. Resorts Atlantic City and Golden Nugget posted revenues of $40.5 million and $34.3 million, respectively, with Golden Nugget experiencing a 3.4% decrease.

The DGE’s recent report on April 2025 gaming revenue showed an overall increase of 5% year-over-year, driven mainly by a substantial 25.2% rise in iGaming revenue, which reached $536.6 million.

In terms of profitability, Bally’s reported a significant operating loss of $6.6 million for Q1 2025, a decline of over 169% from the previous year. Conversely, Borgata and Hard Rock maintained relatively stable results, with operating profits of $48.2 million and $27 million, respectively—down 6.8% and up 2.9%.
