Brazil Orders Instant Shutdown of Pixbet Platform.

The Ministry of Finance in Brazil has implemented a precautionary measure that includes a daily fine of BRL200,000 ($38,512) for non-compliance. Additionally, an order has been issued to seize up to BRL1.1 billion from Pixbet, a sports betting company based in Paraíba. Brazil Pixbet
Operation Arena and Investigation Details
The measure mandates the immediate suspension of Pixbet’s operations in Brazil. Additionally with the cancellation of ongoing bets and the reimbursement of wagers to users. This action is part of Operation Arena, launched on Thursday by the federal police, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministry of Finance, and the Federal Revenue Service. The investigation focuses on the business group’s suspected involvement in currency evasion and money laundering through sports betting activities.
Pixbet’s owner, Ernildo Júnior, was approached by federal police agents in Campina Grande on Thursday. During the operation, his vehicle and mobile phone were seized under a search and seizure warrant.
G1 reached out to Pixbet’s legal team. The representatives stated they had not yet received the order authorizing the operation and described the situation as “caught by surprise.” They also indicated that they would comment further once they have access to the official decision.
Legal Response and Future Actions
The Ministry of Finance’s measure claims Pixbet failed to meet the required standards for monitoring and supervising betting activities. The company is also accused of lacking mechanisms to address compulsive gambling.
The order specifies that Pixbet did not provide information deemed essential by the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA). The company operates the domains “pix.bet.br,” “ganhei.bet.br,” and “betdasorte.bet.br.”
“The precautionary measure was taken due to the high risk of harm to bettors and the integrity of the regulated market,” stated the SPA in the administrative proceedings leading to the suspension.
The suspension requires the company to submit the necessary information before resuming operations, with SPA verifying compliance with established regulations. Until then, all related activities are halted.
It is important to note that this measure is separate from Operation Arena. It targets the same business group for suspected money laundering involving crypto assets and offshore companies. That operation also occurred on Thursday, and according to SPA, the sanctioning processes had been initiated prior to the police action.

All ongoing bets must be canceled, and the amounts wagered are to be refunded to the bettors. Failure to comply with the suspension order could result in a daily fine of BRL200,000. However, Pixbet may continue operating in Rio de Janeiro and Paraná, where it holds local licenses. Operation Arena investigates a business group suspected of using international corporate and financial structures to obscure the origin and destination of funds obtained through gambling and sports betting activities. Pixbet was also targeted in this investigation.
